Charity golf tournament a big hit with local businesses

Monday, July 4, 2016 — Another great OCH Foundation charity golf tournament has come to pass. Bright sun, good food, big laughs and bigger smiles were all common themes at this year’s event which was held at the Meadows Golf and Country Club.

116 golfers gathered for a day of golf, networking, and celebrating the Foundation’s achievements over the past year. When the dust settled, nearly $50,000 was raised. The funds will be used to break the cycle of poverty in OCH communities and help our families lead healthier lives.

“The support we receive from local businesses grows every year,” explained Howard Whittaker, the OCH Foundation’s Executive Director. “The majority of this year’s golfers represented organizations in the private sector. This is an interesting opportunity for us as we are able to accomplish much more with their support when coupled with our partnerships in the not-for-profit industry. It was great to see so many new faces.”

34 local businesses either sponsored, donated prizes, or played in the event. Giant Plumbing and Distributors, one of the tournament’s sponsors, also presented the Foundation with the proceeds from a promotion they ran earlier in the year.

Several notable guests also attended the event, including Mathieu Fleury, City Councillor and OCH Board Chair, Stéphane Giguère, OCH CEO, Wayne French, OCH Foundation Board Chair, OCH Foundation Board members, Jeff Singleton and Melissa Reeves, and Eric Collard, Managing Partner at Ottawa Media Group.

With a focus on education, employment and community engagement, the Ottawa Community Housing (OCH) Foundation brings together community leaders to help families, seniors, and individuals achieve personal success.
