Youth Futures program promotes post secondary education in OCH communities

Tuesday, February 23, 2016 — The Ottawa Community Housing (OCH) Foundation is pleased to announce its newest partnership. Working alongside the City of Ottawa, the University of Ottawa , Ottawa Police Services and several local businesses, the Foundation will help grow the Youth Futures program.

Youth Futures supports post-secondary participation among low income youth in Ottawa through leadership development, youth mentorship, employment experience, and post-secondary orientation to create successful futures and build strong communities. The seven month program provides skills, information, support and practical experience to succeed in college, university and the work force.

As the program’s Marketing Lead, the OCH Foundation will promote the Youth Futures brand while establishing a stable funding model. In addition to the direct link it represents into Ottawa Community Housing communities, the Foundation is a strategic fit within the program given the number of partnerships it has formed within the charitable and private sectors.

“This partnership has been a long-time coming,” explains Howard Whittaker, Executive Director of the OCH Foundation. “The Youth Futures program has enormous potential for youth. It is a proven model, it has thrived within OCH communities for several years and we believe it can be expanded to help even more youth.”

As Marketing Lead, the OCH Foundation will identify and secure new funding opportunities for the program. The addition of this new role will allow the program’s orchestrators to maximize program delivery and impact a greater portion of the city.

Wayne French, newly appointed as Chair of the OCH Foundation Board of Directors, believes this partnership comes at an opportune time. “The Foundation is gaining momentum in its fundraising capacity. Partnerships like these are ideal for both parties; Youth Futures receives additional financial stability while those living in OCH communities are granted the means to achieve their educational goals.”
