Monday, November 15, 2021 — Ottawa Community Housing Foundation for Healthy Communities kicks off Annual Fundraising Campaign to Support Individuals Living in OCH
The OCH Foundation launched its annual year-end fundraising campaign today with an appeal to Ottawa residents to shop local and give local by purchasing an item from their Gifts for Good Catalogue.
The Gifts for Good Program offers for purchase actual items that are available to the 32,000 tenants living of Ottawa Community Housing; Ottawa’s largest social housing provider. In denominations from $25 – $500 examples of gifts include bikes, helmets and locks; backpacks and school supplies; access to arts, camps and sports programs; outdoor play kits; educational bursaries; skills training and development.
Play. Learn. Grow. is the theme of the campaign, which runs from November 15th – December 24th.
Foundation Executive Director Angela Bégin says the theme reflects the campaign’s desired outcome for tenants. “The Foundation team has done an incredible job of providing opportunities for tenants while navigating the COVID-19 pandemic. This past year, working with partners, we distributed more than 100 bikes, provided six-months of skills training and job placements to 130 youth, connected hundreds of children to sports and recreation programming at no cost to families, purchased more than $20,000 in backpacks and school supplies and awarded $15,000 in post-secondary educational bursaries”.
For the next six weeks, Campaign co-chair Melissa Reeves urges Ottawans to consider OCH tenants this holiday season. “The tenants of OCH have demonstrated incredible resilience this year and we remain committed to supporting them as we emerge from the pandemic. This last push for support comes at time of year when individuals may be thinking about members of our community who are vulnerable or in need of extra support or assistance. If you are looking for gift to give this holiday season, we will ensure your donation will go to the Foundation’s programs and the tenants who benefit from them”.
