Together with Ottawa Community Housing’s Caldwell community and dignitaries, including members of the Ottawa REDBLACKS, TD Bank Group and the OCH Foundation unveiled a $250,000 green space as part of an outdoor revitalization project to bring families together.
The donated funds were used to create an innovative family outdoor space, with a focus on children, to reinvigorate an outdoor area in the Caldwell neighbourhood. The initiative is a part of the
#TDCommonGround Project that celebrates green spaces to build bonds in communities throughout the country in support of Canada’s 150th anniversary.
Members of the community, including children, consulted on the project and were there for the unveiling of the space.
“TD is committed to contributing to livable and healthy cities and to improving the quality of life for our communities in a lasting way,” said Peter Lunney, VP Commercial Banking, National Capital Region, TD Bank Group. “To continue this commitment, TD is supporting the revitalization of Pleasure Park and over 150 other initiatives across the country in celebration of Canada 150. Today is an exciting milestone as we officially open the park—a wonderful space that will bring children and families in the Caldwell Community together for years to come.”
The Caldwell community is home to 645 OCH tenants – 91% of which are families. There are 323 youth under the age of 18 and the average age is 23. TD’s contribution was used to build “nature” themed play structures and provide a shared community vegetable garden. In addition, the space was filled with various trees, flowers and shrubs to provide the community with a place to gather and form connections with neighbours.
“Children are priority number one,” stated Wayne French, Chair of the OCH Foundation board of Directors. “Reinvigorating shared spaces creates a base upon which communities can learn and grow. That is what TD Bank Group has provided for the Caldwell Community and for communities across Canada.”
Founded by TD Bank Group in 1990, TD Friends of the Environment Foundation (TD FEF) is a national charity that funds environmental projects across Canada. With the support of more than 150,000 donors, TD FEF has provided approximately $76 million to over 24,000 environmental projects and programs.
