Letting Kids be Kids through Social Recreation Playing is a crucial part of being a kid. Whether it’s through sport, theatre, art, or technology, it’s important for all children to have an outlet in their lives that allows them to make friends, develop emotionally, and have fun! recLINKcreates and increases access to social recreation opportunities for vulnerable children and youth in OCH communities. Its “boots on the ground” approach to has them in the community interacting with the families they serve. By working directly within the community, staff members are able to assess the various, specific needs of the children living there. The program is designed in recognition of the evidence that social recreation is crucial to healthy development. This is particularly so during the “critical” after-school and weekend hours of a child or youth’s day. See It For Yourself Brandon and Alex are recLINK participants by day and Ottawa Senators super fans by night. When we told them that they would get the chance to get a behind the scenes look at the Canadian Tire Centre they were thrilled. What we followed that up with they’ll remember forever. Check out the heartwarming video below. Click the image above to see Brandon and Alex’s day at the Canadian Tire Centre.
