Tuesday, April 11, 2023 — (OTTAWA, ON) April 11, 2023 – The Ottawa Community Housing Foundation has received a $25,000 grant from the Canada Post Community Foundation for an important initiative, Hop on Bikes, in Ottawa, Ontario. Awarded in 2022 by the Canada Post Community Foundation, the grant will be put towards refurbishing and distributing bikes to the Ottawa Community Housing (OCH) communities to children and youth.

The Ottawa Community Housing Foundation’s Hop on Bikes initiative is led by OCH Foundation, in partnership with re-Cycles Ottawa. The initiative brings together community partners to gather, refurbish and distribute bikes, helmets and bike locks of all shapes and sizes to children and youth living in OCH communities.

With the help of this funding from Canada Post, 200 bikes will be refurbished and distributed to children and youth living in OCH communities. They will also receive helmets and bike locks along with the bikes.

Quotes

Quote from the Ottawa Community Housing Foundation

“Hop on Bikes is such an exciting program for the OCH community. Many children and youth do not have the luxury of having a bike to ride growing up. This funding from the Canada Post Foundation will allow us to distribute more refurbished bikes to young children and youth. For many young people, a bike represents a sense of freedom. It encourages play and staying active. This donation will make a significant impact.

Angela Bégin – Executive Director, OCH Foundation
