Youth Futures is a six-month bilingual program that empowers equity-deserving youth ages 16-21 living in low-income and social housing communities to build the skills, confidence, and experience needed to succeed in post-secondary education and future careers.
Delivered in partnership with the City of Ottawa and BGC Ottawa, and supported by the OCH Foundation, this program runs annually from February to August at no cost to participants.
Youth Futures helps young people overcome barriers to employment and education by providing leadership training, mentorship, post-secondary guidance, and paid summer work experience.
Through a supportive community of peers and mentors, participants gain real-world experience and practical skills that prepare them for college, university, and the workplace.
Leadership & Employment Training: Interactive, hands-on sessions that prepare youth for post-secondary education and the workplace. Participants develop communication skills, teamwork, financial literacy, and job readiness tools.
Post-Secondary Orientation: Guided campus tours, insider tips, and support navigating college and university pathways so youth can take the next step with confidence.
Paid Work Placement: Hands-on work experience through meaningful paid summer placements that build resumes and professional networks.
Peer Support & Networking: A strong community of peers, mentors, and program staff who support youth as they grow, connect, and pursue their goals.
Applications for the Youth Futures program open each year in November and can be submitted directly through the Youth Futures website. The website is a comprehensive resource for prospective applicants, offering detailed information about eligibility criteria, program expectations, timelines, and supports available throughout the journey. We encourage all interested youth to explore the site carefully before applying.
When youth are given access to opportunity, mentorship, and meaningful work experience, they are better prepared to pursue education, secure employment, and build stable futures.
