Volunteering is more than an act of service, it’s an investment in community wellbeing. It’s a way to stand alongside your local community and be part of tangible, lasting impact. When you give your time, you create moments of joy and connection for people living in Ottawa Community Housing, and help create a happier, more inclusive city.
Volunteers are at the heart of everything we do, and we’re deeply grateful for their support. Whether you’re looking to lend a hand as an individual or organize a group experience, there are many ways to get involved.
We offer hands-on opportunities across several of our programs and initiatives, including:
Hop on Bikes: Help us prepare, refurbish, and distribute bikes to children, youth, and adults in our communities. From pedal parties to distribution events, volunteers play a key role in making mobility and recreation more accessible.
Pack-a-Sack: Join us as we pack and deliver backpacks filled with essential school supplies, helping students start the school year with confidence.
Special Events & Community Initiatives: Throughout the year, we host various events and program activities that rely on dedicated volunteers to bring them to life.
Every volunteer contributes to something bigger; a child riding their first bike, a student walking into school prepared, a family feeling supported by their community. If you’re interested in volunteering with us, we encourage you to connect with our team to learn about current opportunities.
We partner with corporate teams and community groups who want to give back in a meaningful way. Group volunteer experiences can include bike distributions, backpack packing at our annual Pack-a-Thon, volunteering to serve holiday meal, or supporting one of our many special initiatives.
Volunteering as a group not only gives back to the local community, it also improves teamwork, morale, and helps provide a sense of shared purpose within your organization.

The OCH Foundation also works closely with our partners on the Volunteer Engagement Team at OCH. Through this collaboration, individuals and groups can participate in maintenance, beautification, and community improvement projects across housing communities.
These initiatives welcome volunteer groups of all sizes and offer a unique, rewarding way to give back locally. Whether planting gardens, refreshing shared spaces, or supporting community-led improvements, volunteers help foster pride, connection, and belonging.
Together, these projects bring people together with a shared goal: strengthening the places that residents call home. Connect with us or check out the Volunteer Engagement team’s webpage to explore volunteer opportunities.
